URBAN ALTERNATIVE- TUES-FRIDAY 7PM-MIDNIGHT

Tuesday through Friday catch the Urban Alternative programming from 7pm til 12 midnight exclusively on 90.5 FM WRTE! Started in November of 2006 the mission of the urban alternative block is to provide a space for many second generation Latinos that otherwise would not have an opportunity to experience the type of programming that offers a diverse flavor of underground hip-hop, old school classics, dancehall, Latin Freestyle, club beats, house, new urban music and more.

DJ GREEDY-URBAN SESSIONS TUES 8-10PM & HOTMIX SHOW FRI 9PM-12AM

Dj Greedy began at 90.5 FM when it was still WCYC on 28th and Ridgeway in the late 1990's, after putting in many hours and starting off with the radio training program there he would soon find himself hosting the hotmix show (which he hosts til this day) following the footsteps of many memorable hosts before him which include Kenny "Jammin" Jason who started the hotmix show in the 70's making it the longest running mix show in Chicagoland. The hotmix show features live mixsets every Friday night by the official 90.5 FM WRTE hotmix dj's along with live listener calls, requests and good clean Friday night fun...a Friday night mix show unlike any other in Chicagoland. Years later Dj Greedy also started "Urban Sessions" which focuses on the underground hip hop scene in Chicago, the turntablism scene, live mc'ing, graff and the overall hip hop culture. He is also a member of the 90.5 FM WRTE Hotmix dj team.

ALEX ORTIZ - THE OLD SCHOOL SHOW WED 8-10PM

The smooth, suave, voice that you hear every Wednesday night belongs to this man. A graduate of the WRTE youth training program in 1999 Alex had hosted and participated in different capacities at WRTE before taking a hiatus. In 2007 Mr. Ortiz out of pure accident bumped into a WRTE official on a Chicago street  and at this point he knew destiny was calling him back to the airwaves of sounds inspiring change.....and sometimes when we are hearing sounds inspiring change we have to look to the past... leading to his hosting of the old school show where he plays all your old school Chicago favorites, from Joe smooth to Ralphi Rosario...Tapps to Pierre's Phantasy Club...they are all here in their original recordings! Tune into hear the Old school show Wednesday nights...and spread the word...Old school in the windy city is alive and well!

JESUS ORTIZ - URBAN ALTERNATIVE THURS 8-10PM

Jesus is one of the pioneers of urban programming on WRTE and attacks programming like he attacks a pizza like in the picture!!! All jokes aside, he started his WRTE career earlier this decade as part of the youth training program, after a few hosting duties he took a brief hiatus to concentrate on his studies in engineering and made his return to
the airwaves in 2006. He is one of the original hosts of the urban alternative block and has been a cornerstone ever since. He takes all urban requests on Thursday nights along with contempo witty commentary, sarcasm and overall cool as a cucumber attitude that only he can project!
Interesting fact: He plays in a punk band and has massive knowledge of various musical genres.

DJ STRIKE IT UP - FREESTYLE FRIDAY 7:30-9PM

Dj Strike it up started at WRTE in summer of 2007 after having had participated at another local community radio station for about two years. Every Friday night he hosts freestyle friday continuing a Chicago radio tradition on 90.5 FM WRTE. Freestyle requests, shoutouts, requests and sometimes complaints are taken while always taking into account matters of the heart...which is what freestyle can tend to be about right? Tune it in and spread the word that freestyle lives on! Dj Strike it up is also a member of the 90.5 FM WRTE Hotmix Dj's.

THE HOTMIX DJ'S "DAILY HOTMIX" - TUES - FRI 7PM
Tune into 90.5 FM WRTE Tuesday through Friday for the daily hotmix featuring the official 90.5 FM WRTE Hotmix Dj's throwin' down a set to kick off urban programming. You can also catch them on the hotmix show Friday night from 9PM-12 Midnight.
